2025: The Year of Bitcoin Payments 🐍
Breez teamed up with 1A1z to release a new industry report on bitcoin payments, Bitcoin Payments: From Digital Gold to Everyday Currency, detailing how bitcoin has evolved from “just” digital gold into a working, everyday currency.
The report reveals how over 650 million people can now access bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network, as well as showcasing the thriving bitcoin payments ecosystem that has subsequently developed over the last six years (there are too many companies to mention in one graphic).
The report also features case studies from global businesses like Mercari, Pick n Pay, and Proton, that have all adopted bitcoin payments, showing the business impact on both individuals and companies.

Party on Lightning ⚡️
Buying a coffee with bitcoin is overrated, so how about buying a drink at a bar? Well, that’s where we spotted Yopaki this month. The Mexican bitcoin neobank’s app was seen helping party-goers at the Plan ₿ conference (El Salvador) buy their drinks. Cheers!
Talking Plan ₿, PubKey, and Consensus HK 🗞️
We say it every month but honestly, we really like talking about Bitcoin and Lightning — and January was no exception.
At Plan ₿ Forum - El Salvador, Roy took to the stage to discuss six years of Lightning on a panel moderated by Stephan Livera.
The day before in NYC, Umi and Danny from Breez were joined by 1A1z’s Dan O’Prey to host an event at everyone’s favorite bitcoin bar, PubKey, where the trio discussed the details of the new bitcoin payment report Breez and 1A1z released. The trio also joined PubKey’s Daniel and Mike on PubKey Spaces.
Finally, next week Breez will be at Consensus — so make sure to come and say hi. In Hong Kong, we’ll also be co-hosting Lightning Connect — a Bitcoin and Lightning event with notable speakers from Blockstream, OKX, and Mercari.
