Bitcoin is booming. Builders are flocking to the ecosystem. Users are taking a step down the rabbit hole. And here at Breez, we’ve been busy at work — so it’s that time again to learn what we’ve been up to, where we have been, and what our community of Breezers can look forward to.
In this edition of Feel The Breez, we’ll share:
Why Bitcoin is both a MoE and a SoV
How Nodeless Is Making Lightning A Breez(e)
Our Latest SDK Design Partners
More Lightning In The Wild Sightings
Let’s do this 👇
Bitcoin’s False Dichotomy 🤝
Store of Value? Medium of Exchange?
In his latest article for Bitcoin Magazine, Roy wanted to set the record straight and bust the myth that permeates the ecosystem: Bitcoin can only be either a store of value (SoV) or a medium of exchange (MoE).
As Roy writes, these roles aren’t just connected — they’re inseparable. Bitcoin can’t be a true SoV without being used as an MoE. Why? Because value doesn’t exist in a vacuum; it emerges through exchange.
That’s why Bitcoin’s dual role is intertwined. The qualities that make it a good SoV rely on its use as an MoE, and vice versa. SoV and MoE are logically and practically inseparable. A SoV is a MoE in transactional slow motion, and a MoE is a SoV with the trading velocity cranked up.
But the underlying point is simple: Bitcoin’s future is all about using it for both, and that’s where its true potential and growth lies.

It’s All About (Nodeless) Lightning⚡️
Bitcoin is booming, and so is the Lightning Network — with more users, more volume, and more apps integrating it every week. With the Breez SDK - Nodeless, we’ve made self-custodial bitcoin payments easier than ever for devs to integrate.
Gone are the complexities of managing nodes, channels, and expensive setup fees. Instead, with just a few lines of code, any developer can effortlessly add self-custodial bitcoin payments into their app. It’s the game-changer for bringing Lightning to the mainstream.
Even better, our SDK design partners are LOVING it. Keep an eye on Breez’s social accounts, as we announce a host of new apps and services that are bringing permissionless P2P payments to millions of people around the world.
If you want to learn more about the Breez SDK - Nodeless, check out this video with Roy presenting the in-demand implementation at the Liquid Network Investor Day.

¡Hola, Yopaki! 🇲🇽
Yopaki are the latest app to add Lightning payments with the Breez SDK. The Mexican-influenced Bitcoin neobank, founded by Francisco Chavarria and Carlos Chida, is reimagining what banking can be, by infusing their own culture and traditions into the experience.
Rather than building just another banking app, they’ve gone back to the drawing board and asked, “Does banking really have to be so boring?” The answer: no way. So they started things off by adding Lotería, a Mexican card game where users can win sats daily. We don’t think you’ll see this at HSBC anytime soon…
The Yopaki app is the latest to implement self-custodial bitcoin payments with our nodeless Lightning implementation — you can see it in action by downloading their app.
Lightning in the Wild 🌴
Like Bitcoin’s very own David Attenborough, we once again journey deep into the flourishing and abundant savannahs of the Bitcoin ecosystem, to uncover the latest examples of self-custodial Lightning in the wild.
This month we’ve ‘spotted’ StashPay, a bitcoin wallet built by Tankred Hase for freelancers and digital nomads, who recently announced several new and exciting product updates.
Let’s Talk About You & Me, Let’s Talk About B.T.C. 😏
As we say often, we love to talk about Bitcoin — so here’s a rundown of where the Breez team popped up last month.
First up is Roy, who was a keynote speaker at Lugano’s Plan ₿ Forum in Switzerland, where he broke apart Bitcoin’s false dichotomy between a SoV and MoE (you know, the one we discussed above). While in Lugano, he also took the stage at the Liquid Network’s Investor Day to present the Breez SDK - Nodeless (also mentioned above). In the last edition of Feel the Breez, we shared that Roy had attended Watch Out, Bitcoin! in Madrid. Below is the recording of that panel for you to enjoy!
But that’s not all from Roy, he joined On-Ramp’s Financial Settlement podcast, diving into how Lightning is the common language of the Bitcoin economy — check it out.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, Umi — Breez’s BD Lead — joined Access Tribe to host a workshop on Lightning, where she explained all for their community of women bitcoiners (head on over to their substack).
Finally, over in the Netherlands, Jesse — a developer on the Breez team — joined two podcasts at Bitcoin Amsterdam: Connect the World, where he covered all things Lightning, and Bitcoin School (perfect for our Dutch-speaking Breezers).
That’s it for this month, folks. We’ll see you next time for the final (!) installment of 2024.
Remember, the best time to get into Lightning is now — always has been.
See y’all next time!
